Philanthropists Martin & Jean Shafiroff Honored at Southampton Hospital’s 61st Annual Summer Party

Philanthropist Jean Shafiroff and her husband Martin Shafiroff were honored at the Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s 61st Annual Summer Party under air-conditioned tents in the fields at Wickapogue Road and Old Town Road, Southampton. The Shafiroffs are longtime supporters of Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, with Jean being on the Southampton Hospital Association Board. Jean chaired the Southampton Hospital Summer Party’s in 2010, 2011 and 2013 when a total of $5.4million was raised for the Hospital.The event was an evening of cocktails, dinner and dancing to benefit the Jenny and John Paulson Emergency Department. Larry Scott of Lawrence Scott Events provided the ambiance and gourmet offerings, with music by Groove Society. Larry Scott’s floral décor was inspired by Jean Shafiroff’s elegant style and glamorous gowns. This year’s party was emceed by lead news anchor at WNBC Chuck Scarborough. Some notable attendees included: Jean and Martin Shafiroff, Laura Lofaro Freeman, Caitlin Diebold O’Connell, Cindy Willis, Marigay Mckee, Fern Mallis, Mercedes Ruehl, Sachin & Babi Ankasa, Bill Ford, Audrey & Martin Gruss, Vanessa Gordon, Rolonda Watts, Bob Chaloner, Chuck Scarborough, Steve Bernstein and Debbie Bernstein, Wilbur Ross and Hilary Geary Ross, Greg D’Elia, Rebecca Seawright, Jesse Warren, Susan Bordeaux and Howard Lorber, and Dede Moan and Terry Moan. The renowned Summer Party is one of the largest fundraising events in the Hamptons, and this year raised over $1.5 million through the generous support of its honorees, donors and guests.  Over 700 benefactors attended in support of the Jenny & John Paulson Emergency Department which is the first Level III Trauma Center on the East End and services the community 24/7, year-round. In 2018, the ED had over 21,900 visitors, with almost half those visits occurring during Memorial Day through Labor Day. She serves on the boards of eight charities: Southampton Hospital Association, NYC Mission Society, French Heritage Society, Couture Council, Jewish Board, Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation Honorary Board, Global Strays, and Southampton Bath and Tennis Club’s Charitable Foundation. In addition, Jean is an ambassador for the American Humane Society and the ambassador for the Southampton Shelter.  She is a New York Women’s Foundation Board Alumna who remains very active with the Foundation and women’s issues.
