Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation will host its 17th Annual Benefit Dinner & Auction, honoring fashion designers Cushnie et Ochs on Thursday, December 4, 2014, at Cipriani Wall Street.
Known affectionately by New Yorkers as “The Waxman,” this yearly fête is considered to be among the top fundraising events in New York City, attended by more than 1,200 corporate executives, board members, and their guests. In recent years, “The Waxman” has raised millions of dollars to support the Foundation’s research efforts to produce a cure for cancer.
The special musical guest for the evening will be six-time Grammy Award winner, singer, songwriter and producer, Ziggy Marley. Past celebrity performers have included Train, Peter Frampton, Gregg Allman, Kid Rock, Steely Dan, Glenn Frey, Joe Walsh, Sheryl Crow, John Fogerty, and Counting Crows.
This year’s honorees, Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs, established their brand Cushnie et Ochs in 2008. Now, their collections are sold in more than 50 stores worldwide. The designers’ inherent understanding of the female body informs their body-contouring silhouettes while celebrating the women who wear them. Their dresses have become a favorite on the red carpet, dressing an array of women like Reese Witherspoon, Jessica Alba, Rihanna, and the First Lady Michelle Obama.
The amazing performer for the evening, Ziggy Marley, was immersed in music from an early age, when he would sit in on recording sessions with his father, Bob Marley. Ziggy’s first solo album, Dragonfly (RCA Records), was released in 2003. His second solo release, Love is My Religion (Tuff Gong Worldwide), won a Grammy in 2006 for “Best Reggae Album.”
The evening will be hosted by Chris Wragge, co-anchor of CBS 2 News This Morning, as master of ceremony. The evening’s much-anticipated live and silent auctions will offer guests the opportunity to bid on an exciting selection of exclusive items.
