What’s happening in the Hamptons this Fall 2014?

Montauk Seafood Festival: September 13 – 14, 2014

The second annual Montauk Seafood Festival is a culinary showcase and popular social gathering in Montauk. In the first year of the festival, an estimated 7,000 attendees visited on the first day alone to enjoy seafood delights like mouthwatering lobster burgers and tuna tartare wontons, so this year organizers say it will be expanding. Two large tents will be set up at the Montauk Marine Basin and for those who prefer not to walk between them, free ferry rides will be provided.

The festival’s director Laura Mastandrea told Dan’s Papers there will be children’s events, live music from Remember September and the 3B’s, Lynn’s Hula Hut signature tropical drinks, and of course, local seafood to enjoy. Some of the family-friendly activities include a “snapper derby” and a Q&A session with local fishing legends. Proceeds from the festival sales are used to fund local charities and events.

Hamptons International Film Festival: October 9-13, 2014.

The annual Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF) has become a fall weekend fixture, attracting roughly 25,000 visitors annually at the end of Long Island, in theater venues from Montauk to Southampton.

The festival was founded to celebrate independent film – long, short, fiction and documentary – and introduce a unique and varied spectrum of international films and filmmakers to audiences. Now in its 22nd year, it has become a beloved event in the community and a powerhouse in the industry. In recent years it has garnered a reputation for its slate of documentaries.

It draws international filmmakers with global perspectives while still maintaining a local, small-town feel. Local resident, Alec Baldwin, has become a high profile fixture at the event. As well as film screenings, look out for the Opening Night and Filmmaker Salute Parties, special presentations and panel discussions.

This year’s centerpiece film will be The Homesman, directed by Tommy Lee Jones, starring Meryl Streep and Hilary Swank, which is set for release on November 14, 2014. Swank will be in attendance for the East Coast premiere and will also participate in the Festival’s signature program, “A Conversation With…”  The Views from Long Island section of the festival, which focuses on local films and directors with geographic ties to the Hamptons, will this year include The Affair – the upcoming Showtime series starring Joshua Jackson and set in the eastern end of Long Island.
