Amaranth Restaurant in Upper East Side celebrates 15 Year Anniversary

The 15th Anniversary of Amaranth Restaurant in the Upper East Side was marked on Monday, October 27th, 2014 with a celebration hosted by owners Paola Pedrignani and Francois Marchand.

Over 500 attendees gathered under a marquee glamorously decorated with bright red and yellow balloons outside the iconic restaurant, where they were treated to frozen cosmos and Bellini’s.  Signature tasting plates from Amaranth’s delicious Mediterranean menu were served, like the Napolean of Eggplant with Buffalo mozzarella and roasted tomato, and the grilled Atlantic Salmon with asparagus and dill sauce.

It wasn’t long before the guests joined owners Paola Pedrignani and Francois Marchand on the dance floor to “party like it was 1999”. Violinist Sarina Suno – aka the Violin Diva – and Saxophonist Nadir Simon kept everyone highly entertained throughout the evening.

Amaranth offers a fusion of original Italian food and French food, great hospitality and the highest quality ingredients, with a large portion of specialty items imported directly from Italy and France.Pedrignani and Marchand’s delicious Mediterranean food, featuring fresh and tasty seafood, creative pasta and perfectly al dente risotto, has attracted a dedicated fan base of New Yorkers, Europeans, and celebrities including the late Joan Rivers, Miranda Kerr, Orlando Bloom, former president of France Nicolas Sarkozy, and many more.

For many devoted Upper East Side customers, the event served as a time to celebrate Amaranth, as a restaurant held in very high regard for terrific service and consistently well-prepared food. Special guests Kevin O’Sullivan and his partner Jim, who held their wedding – the first same-sex marriage in New York – at Amaranth in 2012 said the restaurant holds a “very special place in their hearts”.

At the end of the evening guests were treated to a goodie bag filled with gifts from Angelo David Salon, Danesi Coffee, Terra Media olive oil, and Amaranth Restaurant.

Attendees included: Anne Shearman-Betts, Anne Rapp, Brenda von Schweickhardt, Carmen D’Alessio, Catherine Petree, Cece Cord, Dori Cooperman, Dr. Steven J Pearlman (Pearlman Aesthetic Surgery), Heather Thomson (RHONY), Jean Shafiroff (Philanthropist), Jillian Miniter, Jonathan Marder, Lauren Roberts, Margo Manhattan (Jewelry designer), Mark Simone (Radio Personality), Mary McFadden (Fashion designer), Neal and Debbie Stroka, Paola and Arnie Rosenshein, Paola Pedrignani (Amaranth Owner), Ramona Singer (RHONY), Rebecca Rose Woodland (TV Personality), Robert Gladstone (Madison Equities), Sherry von Korber-Bernstein, Si-Yeon Kim (Newswhistle), Sonja Morgan, Tony Fortuna (Owner of T-Bar Restaurant), Yaz Hernandez

Southampton Stable 75 Main Debuts Enticing New Menu

Southampton staple 75 Main, which is open all year-round, has debuted an appealing new Fall Menu which balances familiar favorites with new dishes, highlighting the very best of autumnal flavors and produce.

With October heralding the end of the Hamptons’ high season, the dispersing of crowds and traffic comes as a welcome relief for residents and the less-frequent fall visitors. 75 Main’s owner and restaurateur Zach Erdem says the offseason is very pleasant time to be in the Hamptons. “It’s so calm. There’s something so magical about the crisper sea air on an autumn day when the beach is virtually deserted.”

Another advantage of fall are the excellent dining specials on offer, and 75 Main has some of the most enticing fall specials of all the restaurants in the Hamptons. Monday night is all about the expertly-crafted pastas; guests can choose any soup or salad starter and any one of the restaurant’s delicious pasta entrees for $16. Every Sunday throughout fall, guests can enjoy steak specials; with any soup or salad starter you have the choice of the 75 Main Burger, Flat Iron Steak, Marinated Skirt Steak, or Hunger Steak for $18. From Tuesdays through to Fridays, 75 Main serves the popular 3-course pre-fixe dinners for only $29.95. Executive Chef Mark Militello’s flavorful new menu can be perfectly complemented with selections from 75 Main’s specialty cocktail menu and extensive wine list.

The delicious new fall menu, which highlights the best of local produce like Heirloom tomatoes, features popular dishes like the truffle crumb stuffed breast of natural chicken, served with creamy polenta, garlic and broccoli rabe. The Blue Crab crusted Halibut is always a tasty option – with fennel gratin, wilted Swiss chard, and lemon horseradish butter, while meat lovers can opt for the marinated skirt steak, with olive oil mashed potatoes and French beans.

After dinner, guests can enjoy 75 Main’s exclusive nightlife scene, as the restaurant transforms into one of the hottest lounges on the East End every Friday and Saturday. The famous lounge, where well-known DJs spin the hottest tracks, is open until 4am every Friday and Saturday through fall.

Zach would like to thank all his loyal summer customers after another busy summer season, which saw 75 Main packed each day and night with locals, visitors and celebrities alike.

For further information on 75 Main and additional updates, please visit  www.75main.com or www.facebook.com/75MainSouthampton

World’s #1 Bartender Colin Peter Field of the Ritz Hotel Paris Visits New York

Have you ever stopped to think whilst sitting at a bar that around the world there are some 30,000 bars of note, most of which list the Manhattan as a drink and collectively serve 300,000 a day?  Have you ever wondered what and where the moment occurred when the ingredients were first mixed and that “Eureka” moment happened?

Colin Peter Field, Head of The Ritz Hotel’s Bar Hemingway has spent most of his adult life considering this and the alchemy of cocktail making.  His peers regard him amongst one the world’s authorities on mixing a drink and The Ritz, currently undergoing renovation due for completion late in 2015 is a roving ambassador for the establishment – touring worldwide to demonstrate what makes the bar special.

Last week he took up residence alongside the team at The Mark Hotel on New York’s Madison Avenue where word has spread of his arrival and the regulars, the curious and the Ritz family of Clients are gathering to savour a taste of this unique establishment.

On our arrival Colin was mixing a French 75 after chatting with a Ritz regular who is a collector of classic cocktail books  – not the one you may be familiar with in a champagne glass but rather the original Stork Club recipe.

The Newswhistle caught up with Colin to slake our own thirst for knowledge concerning the chemistry of cocktails:

What makes the Bar Hemingway at The Ritz Hotel in Paris so special ?

“First, we are an institution – after the renovations are complete the Hemingway Bar will be the only part of the Hotel to be unchanged on the service.  Behind the bar we will have modern innovations to make our work more efficient – but to the patrons it will be absolutely the same as ever.  Second, every member of our staff is trained bar staff to European standards.  That is, they will have completed six years of study – three years at hotel school plus a three year degree in the theory and practice of food and beverage before even cutting a lemon to be added to a Gin Tonic.  Third, aside from our illustrious roster of patrons past and present we have many object d’art donated by visitors each of which tells a story.  These stories add up to the magnum opus that is the Hemmingway Bar”.

How do you define a classic cocktail ?

“If you look at the classics they all eliminate the sweetness – a perfect recipe well executed should be in perfect balance.  When you taste it, you will know it.”

What is the hardest cocktail to make ?

“Try making a cocktail with only one ingredient – arguably only three establishments in the world can get this right – The answer: a Gin Martini without the vermouth.”

What is your latest discovery in mixology ?

“Mix 7% whisky with 93% mineral water and pour into ice cube moulds then add to scotch – amazing”

What is your own favourite cocktail ?

“The serendipity – a mix of apple juice, cavados, fresh mint and champagne”.

Which cocktail is best to avoid a hangover ?

“One which I have mixed” smiles Colin turning over his watch which has the cocktail recipe inscribed on the reverse along with the coordinates for the Hemmingway Bar in Paris, “should I ever get lost”.  We sincerely hope not, Colin.
